Using Shortcuts on the Keyboard

In order to record your whole screen:
Hold down Shift + 3 and Command (⌘).
As soon as the screenshot is taken, you'll hear the sound of the camera shutter.
The screenshot will be saved to your desktop by default. The Screenshot app's options (described later) are where you can modify this location.

2. Screenshot Application
If you are on macOS Mojave and beyond, you have a Screenshot application. It offers more capability than the default keyboard shortcut.
To open the Screenshot application, press ⌘ + Shift + 5.
You will see a control panel appear along the bottom of your screen with several options:
Capture Entire Screen: Click the screen icon.
Capture Selected Window: With the window icon selected, click on the selected window to be captured. Capture Selected Portion: Having the dotted rectangle icon selected, select the area. Record Entire Screen: With the video camera icon selected, start recording your screen. Record Selected Portion: Having the dotted rectangle icon with a video camera selected, record an area.
After taking the screenshot or recording, you can save it to any location you like or open it into an application such as Preview. Editing Screenshots Once you have taken a screenshot, you can immediately edit it. Click the thumbnail that appears briefly in the corner of the screen; click markup tools to add text, shapes, or highlights; click Done to save your edits, or close the preview to discard changes.
4. How to Change the Default Save Location
To change where your screenshots are saved:
Open the Screenshot app (Command (⌘) + Shift + 5).
Click Options on the control panel.
Under the Save to section, choose a new location.
5. How to Take Screenshots Using Preview
Preview has a screenshot function as well:
Open Preview from the Applications folder.
Head to File > Take Screenshot, then select From Selection, From Window, or From Entire Screen.
Follow the prompts to take and save your screenshot.
